How to Use Your Microwave Pasta Maker

Cooking Tips

  • Microwave with the lid off. (The lid is only for straining, maintaining heat inside the container after cooking, and storing.)
  • Don't allow pasta to sit in the cooking water after it's cooked; it will continue to cook and become mushy.
  • Once pasta is drained and sits in the pasta maker for a few minutes, shake to loosen any pasta that sticks together.
  • Remove from the microwave as soon as the pasta seems almost al dente, as the cooking process will still continue a little longer — the center should not be hard or gummy.
  • If you serve the pasta warm, only rinse if it's really stuck together. Rinse with cold water when making cold dishes such as pasta salads.
  • If your microwave oven has a turntable, don't worry if the pasta maker is not turning due to its size. Pause halfway through to flip in the other direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What types of pasta work best in the microwave pasta maker?
A: Long pasta like spaghetti and linguine works especially well, along with most short pasta shapes such as penne, fusilli, and rotini. Very large or filled pastas may not cook evenly. Egg noodles and orzo can give erratic results, making it difficult to achieve good texture. It's not recommended to use it to cook lasagna sheets, tagliatelle nests, vermicelli, cannelloni, gnocchi, or fresh pasta.

Q: Should I microwave pasta with the cover on?
A: No. Always cook pasta without the cover, or it could overflow. Instead, attach the cover to the base to drain pasta when it's done cooking, to keep pasta warm while serving, or to store leftovers in the fridge.

Q: Can I use this pasta maker to store food in the freezer?
A: It's not designed for freezer use.

Q: How many servings can the pasta maker hold?
A: The 8-cup (1.9 L) capacity is ideal for single servings, couples, or small families.

Q: When should I add sauce to my pasta?
A: Add sauce or oil to the pasta after microwaving. Do not reheat pasta if you have already added these. We recommend serving sauces that could stain the product in separate dishes.

Q: Can I use the pasta maker to reheat my pasta dishes?
A: Yes. The container can be used to reheat pasta in the microwave, making it convenient for next-day meals.

Q: Can I use it on the stovetop or in the oven?

A: No. The product is intended for microwave use only and shouldn't be used on stovetops, in ovens, or under broilers.
